Need for PM to take note of J&K CM's art of balancing, duplicity: Hari Om
11/23/2015 1:03:58 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 22 : Talking about the behaviour of Kashmiris, Congress veteran M L Fotedar has written in his political memoir, "…the imams in the Mosques would give indirect signals through gestures to the people. They would never tell what to do…The people on the other hand would understand what the imam was suggesting and act accordingly."
This remark about the social behaviour in Kashmir can be corroborated by many happenings in the political domain in Kashmir, said Prof Hari Om.
From waving of green handkerchiefs while apparently giving a secular speech, to holding of a lump of Pakistani salt in the hand while delivering a pro-India speech, the leaders of Kashmir and their audience have perfected a genre of political communication which rest of Indians have usually not understood, he said, asserted that the remark holds particularly true about the political communications of the close associate of Fotedar during his hey days in Congress and that is none other than Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Mufti Sayeed's role in building patronage for Jamaat-i-Islami in Kashmir within Congress is a classic example of deploying political and ideological duplicity as a tactical and strategic manoeuvre, he said.
"In the name of widening the social base of the 'secular' Congress and fighting the appeal of NC amongst Kashmiris, Mufti Sayeed harnessed and promoted communalism in the name of democracy and secularism in Kashmir. He has deployed jargons of peace and healing touch to insulate the communal separatism from the state action. The alliance with BJP carries the classic ingredients of harnessing Hindutva politics for policies which eventually have contributed to objectives contrary to the stated purposes. What better example than Agenda of Alliance which he made as the basis of his alliance with BJP to form government in J&K," added Prof Hari Om.
His recent visits to Chennai and Goa reflect his astuteness in deploying art of balancing and duplicity, while pursuing his politics in the state, BJP leader said, adding that his speech in Goa in the India Conclave organized by a BJP platform contained all the noises which could appear music to certain elements in the BJP and the RSS hierarchy. "Peace, inclusiveness, dialogue, development, rejection of terrorism and secularism where the catchwords of his delivery," said Prof Hari Om, adding that conferring of the visionary status to the BJP leadership would have made the target constituency roll in happiness and at time when certain BJP leaders were desperately in search of endorsement of a known Muslim leader. Knowing very well the political implications of his foray into the domain of so-called nationalist arena, CM Mufti had already balanced the manoeuvre by preceding his visit to Goa by a visit to Aamir Kaleemi Arabic College, Chennai, claimed Prof Hari Om.
The statement of CM Mufti Sayeed at Chennai that Muslims should unite against terrorism, which was also coupled with a lament that condition of Muslims in India is pathetic, and his suggestion to his co-religionists that "for you, it is now a transition from the world of crisis to the world of action," should explain everything and establish that he is using his position to further his communal agenda, Prof Hari Om further said. He added that CM Mufti is pursuing a dangerous line.
BJP leader appealed to party high command to take cognizance of the CM Mufti's art of balancing and duplicity in the larger national interest. He expressed hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah will surly ask the BJP ministers to come out of the Mufti-led government forth with. The alliance of the BJP with the PDP has already caused enough of damage to the BJP in the state and rest of the country and the bleeding nation just can't afford any kind of truck with the subversive PDP any longer, he said in his appeal to the Prime Minister and Party president.
