jammu, Nov 27: Did the Modi Government respect the mandate the BJP got in Jammu in the Assembly election? The Modi-led Government instead of appreciating the nature of the mandate subverted it. The BJP threw its vision document into dustbin, entered into an alliance with a party that had repeatedly condemned it as communal, anti-Kashmir and anti-Muslim and became part of the State Government. Even before assuming office in alliance with its coalition partner, the BJP signed an agenda of alliance that was patently anti-Jammu, anti-Ladakh, anti-refugees and anti-backward social groups.
As said, the BJP went back on its commitment that it will encourage discussion on Article 370 to create conditions leading to its abrogation and, instead, went by those in Kashmir who considered Jammu & Kashmir a disputed territory and also accepted the pernicious demand in Kashmir that Pakistan and Hurriyat Conference needed to be involved in the dialogue process to resolve all outstanding political issues. In fact, the agenda of alliance declared Pakistan and Hurriyat conference stakeholders in Jammu & Kashmir. The point is that the BJP cheated the entire nation just for the sake of power in the State.
As for Jammu and Ladakh, they got a shabby treatment from those who championed the causes of these two regions before and during the election campaign. The BJP had won 28 seats and its coalition partner also 28 seats, but the BJP handed over everything to Kashmir on a platter. The BJP denied Jammu a proper representation in the Council of Ministers and in the State Cabinet. It handed over all the important portfolios to Kashmir. It excluded Jammu from those departments which deal with internal security. It handed over to Kashmir almost all the important positions in the Government. The BJP ditched the people of Jammu region by going back on its commitment that it, if voted to power, will constitute delimitation commission and ensure that Jammu got its due representation in the Assembly. The BJP insulted refugees from Pakistan by talking about their "sustenance and livelihood". The BJP insulted the internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus by suggesting that they will be sent back to the Valley so that they got absorbed in the Kashmiri milieu.
Not content with the exclusion of Jammu from the power structure, which happened for the first time after 1947, the BJP played with the territorial integrity of Jammu province by terming the erstwhile Doda district as Chenab Valley region and Poonch and Rajouri districts as Pir Panjal Valley region. Even this conspiracy against Jammu region didn't satisfy the BJP. It insulted the liberal Dogriyat and Ladakhiyat and recognized Kashmiriyat as something very unique. It said Kashmir issue will be resolved in the spirit of Kashmiriyat - Kashmiriyat which purged the Valley of all infidels and created an environment in the Valley that emboldened Geelanis and likes of Geelanis to foment anti-India troubles in the Valley and advance further the Pakistani nefarious cause in Jammu & Kashmir State.
The fact of the matter is that the BJP did all that it could to destroy Jammu region and its people. And today the position is that the BJP is virtually out of the Police Department, Revenue Department, judicial services and political departments as well as from the civil Secretariat, the seat of power. It is disgusting that the BJP leadership has been shamelessly claiming that "it is for the first time in 68 years that Jammu got its due share in the governance of the State".
This is the plight of Jammu and Ladakh under the Modi raj. The fact of the matter is that the BJP has helped Kashmir to enslave Jammu. It's no wonder that the people of Jammu region are dismissing the BJP as a party of "cheaters" and "bluffers" and also saying that "they committed a grave blunder by voting for the BJP" and that "they will not commit such a mistake again". "The BJP is destined to become a story of the past in Jammu region," they have been saying, adding that "they shall avenge their humiliation as and when they get an opportunity". (Concluded) |
