Early Times Report
jammu, Nov 27: The observance of 28th death anniversary of Lt Girdhari Lal Dogra today turned out to be a conspicuous affair with many misses and many additions that wore obvious look of a hint to certain central quarters by ruling BJP's dispensation here.
While no national political celebrity adorned the function, State BJP leaders thronging the venue in hordes gave an ample reflection of their loyalty to the king (Finance Minister Arun Jaitley) that how strongly they are gelled with the obsession with the late Dogra and his ideology.
While the historical perspective of the late leader is clearly distinct about his political endeavors in the State, though as the Finance Minister in Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah's governance, but almost opposite to the thought process of BJP and RSS, today's function witnessing nearly a full clout of State BJP leaders singing sermons in his praise.
These sent enough feelers that BJP leaders who are facing troubled times in State polity are looking forward to centre - Prime Minister Narender Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and BJP national president Amit Shah for a resurrection.
"Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, Industries and Commerce Minister Chander Prakash Ganga, Assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta, MLC Ashok Khajuria, and MLAs Sat Sharma, Ajay Nanda, Kuldeep, Chander Mohan Sharma and many others lined up on the dais with their turn and piece of praise to be showered on Girdhari Lal Dogra. This is quite significant of the fact that they want to send a signal across to New Delhi and particularly to Arun Jaitley about their concern towards Girdhari Lal Dogra for a reciprocation in some favour," said one of the BJP MLA and close activist of State RSS.
GL Dogra was a Congress politician. He is known to be a staunch Nehruvian. Dogra is also the father-in-law of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
An advocate by profession, he was also a freedom fighter who later became a prominent political figure in the State. He was associated with the National Conference until it merged with the All India Congress Committee in 1964.
In 1942 he joined National Conference and started taking active part in J&K politics. Following his successful stint as Finance Minister, Indira Gandhi also offered him the post of Lok Sabha Speaker. He reportedly declined it saying he would not be able to serve his people by sitting on a chair.
BJP senior leader Subramanian Swamy on Prime Minister’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir in July on G L Dogra's birth anniversary was quite annoyed who had wrote, "GL Dogra was deadly against all of us, he filed cases against RSS leaders. PM must remember this".
While PM had remarked that should be no political untouchability; but he said, GL Dogra had insulted SP Mukherjee; and you pay tributes to him?
Since his 27 earlier death anniversaries, BJP never took any active participation in the functions, but this time round , the official mail sent to media by BJP headquarters has sufficed to the fact that desperate BJP is out to appease Arun Jaitley.
