Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 30: Keeping in mind the interest of farmers, the PDP- BJP coalition government had directed the Food Corporation of India (FCI) authority to procure the farmers' produce on Minimum Support Price (MSP) as soon as possible. But owing to non availability sufficient bags and delaying practices of FCI to procure grains is compelling the farmers to dump their produce in open.
An employee of FCI pleading anonymity said that without any preparation, the FCI has in hurry pass ordered to lower rung employees to establish procurement centers in across the Jammu Province and will procure paddy from farmers at the rate of Rs 1410 for the common paddy Varity and Rs 1450 for grade-A Varity. "But unfortunately since the procurement is started the shortage of bags have been influencing the procurement", he said. Source further said that due to non availability of bags, the lower rung employees continuously facing the anger of farmer community. "Despite repeated informed to department concerned, the authority has still have failed to provide sufficient bags to procurement of paddy", source said. A farmer of border village, Rahul Dev Chib said that the procurement of paddy by FCI was proving as a hoodwink and farmers making rounds of procurement centre but every times the employees deputed at centres' gave simple reply that due to scarcity of bags, we are unable to procurement the paddy. "Wheat sowing season and uncertainty of rain is alarming famer community but so far the procurement is not completed, the farmer is incapable to sow another crop, because the farmers has no sufficient space to store grain", Rahul Dev Chib said. When correspondent contacted to Regional Manager of FCI, Kishor Kumar said that there was no shortage of bags. "Yesterday a total of 50,000 bags were brought from Punjab and is distributed in the procurement centers in Jammu", he said. He further said that for the first time procurement on large scale level has been going on and all the problems being faced by the farmers would be resolved.
