Ready to donate one eye for Insha: Mehbooba | Visits AIIMS, assures all possible help to her family | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 28: Striking an emotional chord, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, on Sunday said that she is ready to donate her one eye to Insha, 14, teenage girl undergoing treatment at AIIMS in New Delhi. Insha had sustained pellet injuries in her eyes when the unrest broke out in Kashmir last month. Addressing a function Mehbooba said, "It's unfortunate that a girl who was studying at her home is at the verge of losing her eyesight. I will do whatever I can to get her vision back. I am even ready to donate my one eye to Insha. I told the doctors to check whether we can shift her to America." Earlier, Mehbooba expressed anguish after meeting Insha blinded by pellets at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. She promised the girl's parents that her government would pay for her treatment, and asked her doctors to do everything in their power to help her see again. "I thought what wrong has my government done that within three months, a situation arose after an encounter in which a young girl who wanted to become a doctor, became a victim," Mehbooba told reporters after meeting Insha in AIIMS. It was during a clash between security forces and protesters in Kashmir's Shopian district that young Insha sustained the injuries that robbed her of her eyesight. "Even if she requires an eye transplant to make her see the world around again, the state government would provide full support for the same," Mehbooba said. Insha wasn't the only who'd been brought to AIIMS after being injured in such clashes. During her visit to the institute, CM also asked after a policeman who'd been gravely wounded in Kashmir. |
