Arun Trisal Early Times report
Kathua, Aug 28:Diagnostic machines for patients, including CT Scan, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Ultra Sound, X-rays and equipment in ICU, besides computers and water coolers, are alleged to have gone defunct in the Kathua district hospital for the last three months. This has caused strong resentment among the patients who are now forced to consult private clinics for CT Scan, Ultra Sound and other such facilities against huge payments. Akshay Bharti, who sustained major injuries in an incident a few days back, alleged that due to the defunct diagnostic machines in the district hospital, he had to visit a private clinic. "As no care is being given to repair these machines, this shows that the health department is not concerned about the problems of patients in the district," he alleged. Rakesh Gupta, a local, alleged that his daughter was admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit for treatment of jaundice, but due to the erratic power supply, she couldn't get proper treatment. He demanded uninterrupted supply of power and water to the hospital and availability of doctors 24x7. Hospital superintendent, Dr Gurdip Singh admitted the malfunctioning of diagnostic machines for the last three months and claimed that these could not be made functional as the engineer concerned was stranded in Kashmir due to the unrest there. The machines would be made functional as soon as the engineer reached here, he added. |
