The authorities however denied disclosing the king and quantum of action and the number of the students punished, but reliable sources said that the action includes suspension of students for a semester or for a year.
After the incident, Prof Javed Musarat, Vice Chancellor had assured the parents of the students and people of the area about stringent action against those involved in the vandalism and had constituted fact finding committee. He had also assured to curb any such incident in the future inside the university campus and had said that he will not come under any pressure to punish the guilty.
The fact finding committee had submitted its report to the eight members disciplinary committee , also constituted by the VC, in the month of May and reportedly on the recommendation of this committee action was taken against many students of various department for their involvement in vandalism.
"Some students were expelled for one year while some students were disqualified for a semester as per their involvements in the violence which had erupted after misconception of the divide between the students of the University" said an official of the university pleading anonymity.
Immediately after the university action parents of few students (expelled for one year or for six months) had forwarded the mercy applications to the Vice Chancellor.
Reliable sources said that keeping in view the future of the students, university administration reportedly had extended some relaxation in favor of few students.
"University administration doesn't want to reveal the identity of the punished students. However, VC by taking such stringent action has sent a strong signal to those who implemented the agenda of some vested interests by creating communal tension in the campus" said a reliable source.
