Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 15: To hide its failure to create sufficient parking space across Jammu, the district administration had sold the public road for parking purpose years back but there seems no possibility to reclaim these sold public roads from contractors.
Moreover, instead of reclaiming these roads, the shameless district administration, every year handed over these public roads to contractors' by inviting tenders for parking vehicles at road side and generating huge money by charging fee from the daily commuters.
A visit of busiest markets of city including Rughunath Bazar, Residency Road and RTO office- Jammu and even Apsara Road, Gandhi Nagar, reflects that one side of the each road is being used for parking purpose that too under permission from district administration.
Shortly, when the annaul secretariat will be shifted to Jammu, several thousand new vehicles will be added to already congested Jammu city and the situation will turn more pathetic, Gupta said, adding that the Jammuites would face long traffic snarls in every road and traffic police department has reportedly no plan to contain the ever growing traffic problem.
Castigating the Traffic police- the enforcement agency, a daily commuter said that there were so many reasons which hampered free flow of movement. "One such reason is, when the Secretariat shift in Summer Capital- the enforcement agency instead of maintaining traffic movement in the city -concentrate on imposing challans on the traffic violators, despite the fact that long traffic snails are there."
Pointing out the work style of enforcement agency, a daily commuter Inder Singh said that interestingly, in three kilometer stretch from Bikram Chowk to Satwari- you will be frequently encountered by traffic chaos, that too, in presence of traffic team nakas established at near Polytechnic College, Bikram Chowk, Green Belt park and Satwari.
The enforcement wing's team instead of streamlining the traffic, have been found busy to challan the violators who have been not having helmets, pollution certificate.
Though, Jammu administrations has decided to revise proposed Master Plan Jammu-2021 to address the gaps and discrepancies, due to rapidly increasing of urban population but has been seen least bothered to provide sufficient parking space. "The already established parking by concerned authorities has not sufficient space against the vehicles which plying daily in city."
There are three big parking in Jammu- Jewel Chowk, Bahu Plaza and in Super Bazar Market, if two parking left, in third parking (Super Bazar Parking), it is not easy task to park their vehicle there, that too in peak season of festivals. If someone entered there, has to spent at least two- three hours to park the vehicles. Only god can provide some alternative otherwise the district administration as well as other law enforcement agencies are totally failed to do so, Nishant said.
