Weariness, division appear in separatists' camp
10/15/2016 11:18:13 PM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 15: The separatists' camp has started showing signs of weariness after about three-month continuous call for bandh and strikes, which has not only consumed about 90 lives but has crippled life in the Valley and hit the students most who are to appear in the board exams.
The weariness also comes at time when the separatists are under intense pressure to call off their hartal 'calendar' as many citizens have started questioning the relevance of this unending cycle of violence with not even an iota of response from the Modi government.
The top separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani had written a letter to all camps of separatists and also to the members of civil society seeking suggestions for future course of action as the current call for hartal is to end on October 20.
Till now no one has responded to suggestions of Geelani and some who may have responded had not made their views public.
Some separatist leaders have themselves started questioning the relevance of the 'calendar' as it has only affected the ordinary Kashmiri’s, while the people in the Delhi, who have to take call, have not responded a bit.
"It's very serious development as leaders have not responded to call given by Geelani. It has rarely happened in the past and it shows how the things are turning in the Valley. A realistation is dawning that Modi is unlike his predecessors. And, also that India is gaining lot of international support and relevance. So, the separatists too are feeling the heat and this delay is reflective of this realizations," said a senior official.
The chinks in the separatists' camp are also coming out as many of the other separatist leaders are saying, though in private, that when they were not consulted in issuing the calendar why their suggestions are sought now.
"The crucial test will come when the students will appear for the board exams. If Geelani extends the strike and it results in wastage of crucial year of the students then he will face the public ire and it's the reason other separatists doesn't want to be part of his camp at least for now. And, this situation could prove a major turning point," said the official.
