Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 15: First additional sessions judge, Jammu, Mohammad Akram Chowdhary has rejected the bail application of a man who is alleged to be involved in the dowry death of his wife.
Santosh Kumar, son of Ajeet Raj of Galwaday Chak, Marh, was married to Pooja Sharma on April 14, 2012. She was brought dead to the GMCH here on October 13, 2014. As she had died of poison, police had initiated inquest proceedings into the incident.
As per the statement of Pooja's father to police, her in-laws used to taunt and assault her for not having brought a car in dowry and often raised this demand. She used to narrate all this to her parents. She was subjected to so much of physical and mental torture that she was forced to end her life by consuming poison.
A case in this regard was registered at Kanhachak police station. After completing a probe into the matter, police had filed the chargesheet under sections 306, 498-A and 109 RPC and 304-B of RPC.
After hearing the two sides, the judge said as per the evidence collected by police during investigation, Pooja had been subjected to cruelty by her in-laws, including her husband, and by committing suicide, a dowry death had taken place within a period of seven years of the marriage.
"All other accused are stated to have been bailed out and the applicant is the only accused who is in custody and in case, he is admitted to bail, he may try to tamper with the prosecution evidence and in the considered opinion of this court, he is not entitled to bail till material witnesses are examined by the prosecution," he added.
With these observations, the court rejected his bail application. (JNF)
