Early Times Report
Poonch, Oct 16: For many reasons the Nari Niketan at Mendhar has become the victim of "mismanagement" while as its inmates are not being provided basic amenities, sources told Early Times.
They said Nari Niketan building was constructed by 37 RR of army under operation Sadhbavna to house the orphans and the destitute in 2007.
The building was provided with furnished basic infrastructure including TV set, generator, chairs and computers for the inmates. Army's 37 RR handed over the building with all equipments to the state Government.
The costly equipments like computers and other things have been allegedly taken away by the staff. The TV set is installed in the room of Superintendent who prefers to sit away in her house and attends office rarely, sources alleged.
Presently there is a mess in Nari Niketan. The building has developed many cracks and main pillars are on the supports of pipes which endangers the lives of inmates.
"The Nari Niketan has 27 children and three windows living in it these 30 souls are being provided sub standard food. The inmates are punished if they speak to some media person or any outsider regarding the mat-nutrition and mat-treatment. They do not have any medical facility there and it has been observed often that children fall sick but no doctor is called to the Nari Niketan, " sources alleged.
They revealed that the purchase made by the staff for ration etc is not being properly maintained in account books instead fake vouchers were being obtained for the purposes they alleged.
Sources said the food is being prepared on 'choolah' in an un-hygenic condition and bedding for the inmates is in a pathetic condition. Moreover there is no watchman to guard the building.
Sources said some time before SDM Thakur Sher Singh had paid the visit of this Niketan and had taken serous note of discrepancies.
Sources said after his visit a situation improved but later on the old practices were repeated again.
The district officer has never paid any visit to this Nari-Niketan the sources added.
Youth club Mendhar chairman advocate Nadeem Khan in an appeal to District Development commissioner MH Malik and Director Social welfare department Jammu said that they should take the cognizance of the matter and order a probe into the bungling and the mismanagement of Nari Niketan.
