Early Times Report
ANANTNAG, Oct 17: Defence expert Lt. Gen. Rameshwar Roy on Monday spoke on the terrorist attack on policemen who were guarding a TV tower in Anantnag district and decamped with at least five service rifles on Sunday night and said that the terrorists are only looking for points of weaknesses and opportunities now.
"Such incidents have been increasing in the Kashmir Valley due to Pakistan trained terrorists operating in the Valley who must have got orders from Pakistan to increase the frequency of their attacks so that they can bring Jammu and Kashmir to the notice of the international community," he said on the repeated incursions by terrorists from Pakistan.
"The vulnerable points in Jammu and Kashmir are not completely covered by the Indian Army. Many areas are covered by Jammu Kashmir Police (JKP) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF); some areas are covered by JKP and CRPF both. The most vulnerable areas have been covered by the Army. They saw that this particular area did not have strong defence, so they attacked and took away the guns," he added.
Reportedly, the militants attacked the guards posted at a Low Power Transmitter station of public service broadcaster Doordarshan in Dalvash village late on Sunday night.
Police have sounded an alert in the area.
On Saturday, terrorists had opened fire again at a vehicle of the police at Tootigund in Handwara district. This was a day after a Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawan was killed and eight others injured in an attack on their convoy by terrorists, near a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp at Zakura.
Last month, militants attacked the guard post at the residence of a political leader in Kulgam district and decamped with rifles of policemen after disarming them.
