Garbage dumps in city confines inviting health hazards

Udhampur, Oct 19: Despite various schemes and programmes undertaken to sanitize public places across Udhampur town which remains un-cleaned, emitting foul smell making it difficult to the passerby and giving an ugly look to visitors.
Members of civil society, and morning walkers association has alleged that heaps of garbage could be seen accumulated in most of the public parks of city and many parks and markets still await sanitization thus are bringing immense inconvenience for the commuters and visitors in the town.
Citing examples local alleged that garbage dumps could be seen littered across the whole Udhampur city but open garbage dumps opposite J& K Bank Domail, Opposite CMO office Udhampur and others visible places being at centrally located give odd look to town.
Talking to Early Times, Amit Sharma , Ajay kumar ,Amit Mehra and Rakesh Sharma told that when people walk along the foot path or even drive their vehicles they have to pass through an odd experience as foul smell emitted from the garbage dumps makes it worst for them.
"People are prone to some dangerous diseases including respiratory diseases due to dirty environment," they said while alleging the Municipal Committee Udhampur to have failed to get the garbage lifted from these points on regular basis.
Irked over the in-action from concerned authorities, the locals said that we have urged Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Neeraj Kumar to take the issue with concerning department and direct them for the change dumping sites from the city and also to lift garbage before or by 10 am from within the city.
Branch Manager of J&K Bank Housing Colony said, "Concerning department needs to lift garbage from the place near bank as hundreds of customers visit for banking services but it gives them an unusual experience when they have to pass by the littered garbage while visiting the bank.
He said, "We have communicated to Office of DC Udhampur but response is still awaited. When contacted Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Municipal Committee Santosh Kotwal said that we are facing shortage of garbage lifting vehicles but higher authorities do not take any types of initiative of their even the higher authorities do not issue any types of funds for the daily wagers employees who work for lifting the garbage.
He also said that we face the shortage of vehicles and funds for the daily wagers and then we cannot lift the garbage from the visible parts of the city from time to time.
