Congress' opposition to orange colour will further hurt it | Extreme form of secularism | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 28: The Congress, the Samajwadi Party and similar other political parties, which only on May 23 suffered humiliating defeats, have not learned any lesson. They continue to tread the same "secular path" which ensured their defeat in the just-concluded general election. These parties have turned so radical and intolerant that they are now even opposing the orange colour in the jersey of the Indian Cricket Team saying it is another attempt of PM Narendra Modi to saffronize sports also. Maharashtra Congress MLA M A Khan was the first to oppose the alternate orange and blue jersey of the Indian Cricket Team, saying that it was the Narendra Modi led government's push for saffronization. The Congress as a party and a few other "secular" outfits all took the plunge and opposed in one voice the organge colour in the jersey. As for the Samajwadi Party, it MLA in the Maharashtra Assembly said: "Modi Ji wants to saffronize the entire country. A Muslim was the one who designed the Indian Tricolour. There are other colours in the Tricolour, why choose only orange? It will be better if their jersey is based on the Tricolour". The Congress when asked about the orange colour in the jersey claimed that "the Modi government was trying to add a new angle to matters like sports, cultural events, government programs and education in the last five years". It said: "The last term of the Modi government also saw a saffron push on part of the centre which would be detrimental for the unity of India. The MLA also hinted at the Modi government disrespecting the national flag via this team India jersey. It should be noted that unlike the Congress' allegations, Indian Cricket is controlled by BCCI which is an autonomous body not controlled by the government. The opposition of the Congress to organge colour will further hurt it and mar its electoral prospects. In fact, people have already started terming the Congress as a party that can go to any extent to "appease a certain community". |
