Manpower dearth hits postal services in J&K | 9 Postmaster, 20 Inspector posts lying vacant | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 1: On one hand, the union government is patting its back over computerisation of post offices but on other hand, the acute shortage of manpower in Jammu and Kashmir postal circle is hitting the postal services badly. As per the data compiled by ministry of communication revealed that in Jammu and Kashmir circle, there was 21 post of Postmaster of Grade I, II and III were sanctioned but against the sanctioned strength, only 12 post were fulfilled and remaining 9 were lying vacant from many years. While against 40 sanctioned strength of Inspector/ Assistant Superintend post, only 50 percent post fulfilled. The document further revealed that in Jammu and Kashmir circle nearly 390 post of Multitasking staff have been sanctioned but against the sanctioned nearly 212 post were vacant. Moreover, against 344 sanctioned post of postman/Mail Guard but against the sanctioned manpower, only 119 postman is discharging their duties while remaining 225 post are lying vacant due to unknown reasons. "Nearly 933 post of Postal assistant/ Sorting Assistant were sanctioned in J&K circle but against the sanctioned strength nearly 264 post were also vacant", the document revealed. The document further reveals that against the total post offices, the department concerned has succeeded to complete computerization of 266 post offices in last four successive years and remaining ones has still become a laggard to complete digitization process as compare to other neighbouring states. |
