Where is proposed airport at Samba? | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 20: While as state authorities have served notice to nearly 70 families to vacate their houses to expand existing Airport at Satwari, proposal to set up another airport in Samba district has appeared to be shelved by the government. Announcemnt of second airport at Jammu was announced by top BJP leaders after meeting with Union Ministers and it was announced at that time that process of identify land for the airport has already been started very soon. As reported earlier on December 21, 2017, the then Deputy Chief Minister and BJP Lok Sabha member had announced that Centre has given its nod for a new international standards airport for Jammu region which will be constructed, most likely, in Samba district. Both the BJP leaders had made this statement after meeting the then Civil Aviation Minister who according to them, was agreed to the demand for construction of a new airport of international standard for Jammu. In the month of December 2017, it was also announced that a team from Civil Aviation Ministry would visit Jammu within days to finalize the land already identified by the state government at Samba district for the new airport. It appears that construction of airport was merely a political statement to hoodwink the people at that time. Ironically it was also announced that details of the land identified as in Samba district for new airport would be submitted to the Civil Aviation Minister within a week's time. After nod by the Civil Aviation team, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the new airport will be prepared and further work taken up. The then Deputy Chief Minister and Lok Sabha members had made announcement of new airport at Samba after state government had identified land for construction of AIIMS in the same district. |
