Shortage of minor mineral hampering mega projects

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 3: The ban on minor minerals in Jammu region is hampering many mega projects. For any construction work whether government or private one needs gravel, sand and other allied products for carrying out construction which is not presently available.
Presently, Jammu and other adjoining districts are dependent on Kathua from where the material is being supplied. The construction material being supplied from Kathua is not sufficient to meet the present market need and in such circumstances the work on the building of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Vijaypur is badly hampering.
According to reports, the construction work is badly hampering due to the non-availability of minor mineral as the site has a requirement of around fifty vehicles a day but is getting only seven vehicles.
AIIMS is a dream project for the people of Jammu region but if the work will go on like at snail's pace it is not going to be completed in stipulated time period. The delay in the completion of the project will further burden the government's kitty following escalation in prices of many products.
The people of Jammu region were very happy after the work on AIIMS was started but it seems that they still have to rush to Delhi or other States for speacialized treatment following delay in construction of AIIMS Vijaypur. Sources said that the construction work was in full swing but following shortage of material is now standstill from almost last one and half month.
According to DMO Kathua, Devinder, tendering process of River Ravi is over but majority of stone crushers in the area are sealed and district has very limited resources which cannot fulfill the demand of entire Jammu region.
Vijay Kumar, a local shopkeeper from Vijaypur, said that the people were very excited to have AIIMS in their area and the work earlier was also in full swing and double shift but now it is going on snail's pace which may take more years in completion than deadline.
