Opposition up in arms, govt. chalks strategy

Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 6 With all storms, heat and dust the most noisy and interesting session of the state legislature begins here tomorrow. The session beginning Monday is an advanced budget session and last sitting of the present assembly as the state goes to elections later this year. The 21-day session is likely to be most stormy and noisy primarily for the reason that duration of the session has been kept shortest ever. According to the legislative precedence the state legislature should remain in session for at least 100 days every year. The autumn session in the state last year for just around one week and the present budget session has been cut short to just 21 days. The opposition National Conference, Panthers Party and other independent legislators are all set to corner the government on short duration of the session. The opposition is also up in the arms against the government on its performance and delivery. Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 6 The vital Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was on Sunday closed for vehicular traffic due to heavy snowfall around Jawahar Tunnel area, official sources said. The road link between Kashmir and rest of the country was snapped following heavy snowfall across the valley, which has rendered the highway unsafe. Heavy snowfall and rainfall was recorded on either side of the Jawahar Tunnel on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, sources said, adding the 300-km arterial highway has been closed for vehicular traffic till further orders. Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Jan 6 According to a spokesman of State Hajj Committee, the special Hajj flight carrying Hajjis of J&K could not land at Srinagar Airport due to unfavourable weather today.
