With Katra town and uphill track to the sanctum reverberating with festivities on the occasion of Navmi, all previous record of pilgrim influx were surpassed as more than three lakh devotees drawn from different parts of the country offered obeisance at the holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi during the Navratras.

Security has been upped at the Jammu railway station following a threatening letter purportedly written by the hardcore terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba cadres to blow up stations in Jammu and Punjab.
The letter was mailed to the office of the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Uttar Pradesh, and it threatened to blow railway stations in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.
A police official said the antecedents of the letter are being verified, and no chances are being taken.

The army has arrested a soldier for allegedly killing a teacher in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir as massive protest demonstrations sparked by the incident continued in the area for the second day on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the hardliner Hurriyat faction leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has been put under house arrest preventing him to visit Kupwara which has been rocked by violent protests.
The teacher, Abdul Rashid Mir, was killed accidentally by a bullet shot from Mohammad Tariq's service rifle after he was stopped by security personnel at a check point to ascertain his identity, army sources said.

Though the state run hospitals continue to seriously lag in infrastructure and manpower but still the government is actively considering a ban on private practice of the government doctors serving with the Medical Colleges and their associated hospitals.
A move which is likely to backfire, the government seems serious on. Sources said that to make the ban effective, the government might come up with legislation as at present the pros and cons of the ban were being discussed at various levels. "In view of the fact that a similar move made twice earlier had failed, authorities are treading cautiously", said the sources.

A senior civil servant presently serving at the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has landed in a soup as his influential sister-in-law has dragged him into a litigation on charges of sexual molestation.
Additional Chief Executive Officer of SMVD Shrine Board, Puneet Kumar has been summoned by Delhi's metropolitan magistrate Sanjay Bansal to explain his position in the cases dating back to 2003.
