Jammu, Nov 26: It might sound bizarre but it is true that Jammu and Kashmir, where institutions for imparting training to teachers had mushroomed abruptly, has another unique distinction as it has also a large number of untrained teachers working in various schools.
According to the data furnished by Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education department and J&K Board of School Education, state has nearly 550 Elementary Teachers Training institutions (ETTs) and 142 private B.Ed colleges, which have been imparting professional training among educated youth to teach students in various schools.
Sources informed that National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has developed Performance Indicators for Elementary School Teachers (PINDICS) for assessment of teachers' performance.
According to the recent data furnished by NCERT, it has come to fore that nearly 4,50,947 teachers were untrained across country while 1,53,731 are undergoing professional training.

SRINAGAR, Nov 26: PDP and Congress did well in the first phase of elections held for 15 seats on Tuesday in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the Intelligence reports PDP has clear edge on five seats while it is in close contest on two more constituencies which can go either way.
"In Ganderbal constituency, PDP candidate Qazi Mohammad Afzal could win by a margin of 4000 votes, Nizamuddin Bhat of PDP is likely to retain his seat though with a thin margin of about 1200 votes," a senior Intelligence official told Early Times.

Jammu, Nov 26: So unconcerned is Tourism Department for the development of tourism in Jammu region that the video games installed by it four years back in its cafeteria at the world famous Mansar lake have not been made operational as of today.
While the machines, which cost Rs 24 lakh, remained unoperational for four years, their warranty period has expired now.
