Notwithstanding assertions by the National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah as well as his son, the party President Omer Abdullah of NC going alone in the forthcoming assembly elections in the state, the party is in desperate search of some allies among the small parties. Particularly in Jammu region National Conference will not be averse to enter into seat sharing arrangement or a tacit understanding with some small parties, to avoid multi cornered contest, where it perceives that the same will cut into National Conference votes.

Aiming at a nine per cent growth, the 11th Plan took off today with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh cautioning against the price pressures on food items and the adverse impact of global financial crisis on the economy.
The five-year plan (2007-12) was approved by the National Development Council, the highest policy making body of the Centre and the states, amid demands by the Chief Ministers for greater flow of funds to them for tackling regional imbalances.
Although exuding confidence that the economy could grow by 10 per cent in the terminal year of the plan, Singh listed out the areas of concern for the economy that could render the development lop-sided.

Making out a case of contempt for willfully disobeyed the court orders, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court today summoned for personal appearance the former Director General of Police Gopal Sharma, who is now the Director General of Special Service Bureau (SSB).
Observing that a case of the contempt of court prima facie figures out against Sharma, the Judge has sought his personal presence in Court before proceeding further in the case. The High Court Registry has been asked to send a notice to the present DGP for its service to Sharma.
