Srinagar, Apr 14: National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has ruled out contesting the assembly elections till Jammu and Kashmir remains a Union territory.
"I don't fancy my chances for anything. I don't aspire to the office of the Chief Minister. And I most certainly do not aspire to lead a Union Territory.
"I have made it abundantly clear that in the current situation that J-K finds itself in, I am not contesting assembly elections. I have said this all the way back from 2020 onwards and my position has not changed," Abdullah told PTI in an interview here on Saturday.

SRINAGAR, Apr 14: Kashmir Valley was lashed by rain, while some higher reaches of Kupwara and tourist resort of Sonamarg experienced fresh snowfall during the past 24 hours, officials said.
Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir Valley experienced moderate rainfall during the past 24 hours, disrupting normal life and bringing down temperatures.
Many low-lying areas were waterlogged due to the rainfall in Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir valley. It was still raining at most places across the Kashmir valley when this report was filed.

JAMMU, Apr 14: The annual Amarnath Yatra will start on June 29 this year and conclude on August 19, coinciding with the occasion of Shravan Purnima.
A statement issued by Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) headed by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, said that this year’s Amarnath Yatra to the holy cave shrine will start on June 29 and end on August 19.
Advance registration for the Yatra will start from April 15.
The cave shrine situated at 3,888 metres above sea level in Kashmir houses an ice stalagmite structure that wanes and waxes with the phases of the moon.
Devotees believe that the ice stalagmite symbolises the mythical powers of Lord Shiva.

Jammu, Apr 14: Over 1.4 kgs of heroin has been seized in Rajouri district, taking the overall recovery of the narcotic drug to 9.98 kgs from three cross-border smugglers who were arrested near the Line of Control (LoC) on Wednesday, police said. Naveen Kumar, Sukhvinder and Davinder alias “Munna” were arrested on April 10 with a bag containing 8.5 kgs of heroin after a Village Defence Guard (VDG) member from Makri village raised an alarm after noticing four persons carrying a bag and moving suspiciously in the forward village.
Their fourth associate, however, managed to escape and efforts are on to nab him, officials said.

SRINAGAR, Apr 14: Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) on Sunday issued an avalanche warning in the higher reaches of two districts of Kashmir valley during the next 24 hours, officials said.
An avalanche with a “medium danger” level is likely to occur above 2400 metres over the north Kashmir district of Kupwara and central Kashmir’s Ganderbal districts in the next 24 hours.
People living in these areas have been advised to take precautions and avoid venturing into the avalanche-prone areas till further orders.
