| Unified Command Meet | | Army ready to vacate orchards if Govt provides suitable alternate accommodation | | |
Srinagar, May 21
The Army authorities informed the state
Government that they were prepared to vacate
orchards and other agricultural lands,
occupied by troops,if suitable alternate accommodation
was provided to them.
This assurance was given by the senior Army
functionaries at the Unified Command meeting held
here today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister,
Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad.
The state Government informed the Army functionaries
that
already sites for accommodating the troops
had been idedntified.However, the Army authorities
wanted suitable infrastructure to be built before the
troops were shifted to those places because forces
should not be made vulnerable to militant attacks if
reallocated without adequate security cover.
The meeting also discussed the problem of infiltration.
While the state intelligence officials informed the
meeting that as compared to February-March 2007
the level of ingress during the last 50 days had
increased.

The delay in Chief Minister,
Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad’s,commitment on setting up a
committee of representatives of all major political
parties for examining the problems of refugees from
Pakistan and occupied Kashmir and the issue pertaining
to fresh delimitation,relocation and rotation of
Reserved segments has intrigued several political
leaders in the state.
Azad,during an all party meeting in Srinagar on
May 12, had announced that a committee would be
constituted which would submit its recommendations
within 10 days.The Government,he had stated,would
frame its policy on the recommendations of the
committee.
