The government of India has formulated a host of measures to secure airports and prevent hijacking. The measures include profiling of pasengers on the basisis of nationality and origin, it is learnt. Need for a stepped-up vigil at some airports in the country was highlighted at a five-hour-long meeting here.
These airports are at Jammu, Srinagar, Amritsar, Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati and Agartala. Some scientists have been set in motion by an unexpected, unusual, unnatural happening in Kashmir Valley--appearance of oranges on a tree. This information was circulated by the CNN-IBN television channel on Friday. Oranges normally grow in high temperatures and the season ends by the onset of summer. But when oranges start growing in Kashmir, bizarre is the only word that comes to mind.
Details pasted on the website of the television channel are quite revealing. Abdul Rashid Badyari, a local Kashmiri Muslim of Srinagar, has been identifed as the owner of the orange tree--the only orange tree in the Valley of Kashmir.

Indian Army sepoy, Satyam Kumar, has been sentenced to death by a summary General Court Martial (GCM) for killing his superior, Havildar Padmarajan in 2006. Satyam Kumar is a sepoy in the Northern Command Signals unit.
Satyam Kumar had pumped 20 bullets into Padmarajan after a minor argument. The punishment has to be confirmed by the government of India on the recommendation of Army headquarters. The Court Marshal passed the sentence after a 15-day trial in Udhampur in Jammu region. This is the second death sentence given to a soldier in less than three months.

The State Accountability committee has recommended to the Government dismissal of Khursheed Ahmed Naqeeb, Managing Director J&K Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) non charge of misuse and abuse of his official position.
The Commission comprising, Justice (Retd) G.L.Raina and member Justice (Retd) Muzaffar Jan, gave its verdict on a complaint filed by Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed against Naqeeb.
