NEW DELHI, JUNE 9
In a move to further popularise e-ticketing among commuters, Railways has decided to slash the service charges for the facility by Rs five on sleeper class and has set a target to increase the distribution of tickets through the mode three-fold.
"Two years ago, (2005-06) IRCTC used to charge Rs 60 from agents for providing e-Ticketing facility to passengers through its various outlets. It was reduced to Rs 40 in 2006-07 and further slashed to Rs 15 in the current Budget of 2007-08. We have decided to further reduce it to Rs 10," Sudhir Kumar, OSD to Railway Minister, told reporters here.
However, he made it clear that the old rate will continue for travel agents, reaching passengers' residences, unlike e-tickets available at petrol pumps, cyber cafes and banks.
The move is aimed at popularising the e-ticketing concept among the Railway users, he said adding, 36,000 e-tickets were sold this year facilitating travel of one lakh passengers.

BL KAK
NEW DELHI, JUNE 9: The cat is out of the bag. Interception of two messages has brought to the fore what intelligence specialists have termed as " a highly sensational phenomenon" in relation to the tie-up between the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba headquarters and unpredictable chief of the dreaded Hizbul Mujahideen, Syed Salahuddin.
The Lashkar-Salahuddin nexus, these specialists have argued, is signifcant, considering the Hizbul Mujahideen supremo's thrust on the "need of the hour to force India to quit Kashmir". This apart, Salahuddin has also advocated the need to "ensure that all plans for the return of Kashmiri Pandit migrants to the Valley are aborted with guns and gre... | |
