Jammu, July 29
With fears of Indo-Pak peace process collapsing looming large due to the internal crises in the neighbouring country, the National Security Advisor today exuded confidence that every thing is in place though little slow.
Significantly, Narayanan said that infiltration across the Line of Control that divides Jammu and Kashmir had "come down appreciably" after a spurt in April and added that infiltration through other sectors like Bangladesh and Nepal are far more serious although not enough attention is being paid to it.
In an interview to news channel, the National Security Advisor MK Narayanan said that the Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has not been weakened by the recent internal crises in his country and he holds commitment on the peace process with India . He admitted that the progress is slow but the process has not derailed.

Jammu, July 29: With no official word from the government or major political parties on the militant threat to non-Kashmiri workers, the scared and harassed poor labourers heading homes in different parts of country are carrying back a poor image of Jammu and Kashmir.
"We did not know that we were working in Pakistan, we though it is India and we are free to work anywhere for earning two square meals every day", said a disappointed Brij Mohan Sharma of Patna who literally cried on being pushed out of his work place. He said that the following militant threats they waited for the reaction of the government and the security forces but none came up with an assurance.

Jammu, July 29: Even as the government carries on with its campaign to attract tourists from across the country for improving economic profile of Kashmir, at least four visitors and a local were killed in a powerful explosion near the historic Shalimar gardens on the outskirts of Srinagar City.

Jammu, July 29: In an unexpectedly severe reaction, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today warned the nationalised banks of severe actions if the refused to clear loan cases of the unemployed youth in the Kashmir Valley.
The Chief Minister was reacting to the complaints that the nationalised banks operating in Kashmir Valley were reluctant in forwarding loans to the Kashmiri youth for self employment ventures. Even as the police claimed to have eliminated one militant at Pampore, in the outskirts of Srinagar , one soldier was killed in Trussa forests of Kupwara, a lady was injured when militants fired upon her. Elsewhere in valley a large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered during last twenty four hours.
Sources told KMT that on a specific input about the presence of a militant in town, police conducted an operation in the heart of the Pampore town about twenty kilometers from Srinagar.

At least 12 tourists were injured in a blast inside a bus near Shalimar Garden on the banks of world famous Dal Lake, a police spokesman said.
The blast was believed to have been caused by bursting of a gas cylinder inside the bus which was on way to Shalimar from nearby Nishat Garden, the spokesman quoting preliminary investigations said.
Of the injured the condition of four of them was stated to be critical, the spokesman said. Police have rushed to the scene and further investigations are on, the sources said.

Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has expressed grief and shock over the death of five persons and injuries to 16 others in an incident at Shalimar today and ordered investigation to ascertain the cause.
Immediately after he came to know about the tragic incident, the Chief Minister asked the Director General of Police and other officers to rush to the spot, evacuate the injured to hospital and ascertain details of the incident.
The dead include three females and a male from Gujarat, who had come here as guests of a family, and a local girl. Sixteen others sustained injuries who have been admitted to the hospital.

Can India and Pakistan ever hold a joint military exercise? Maybe, says Defence Minister A K Antony.
"We want friendly relations with all our neighbours. We are going to have a joint military exercise with China in October this year," Antony told reporters here today while elaborating on New Delhi's endeavour to build peace with its neighbours.
