| Police bosses sore over diminishing protocol | | Breach of warrant of precedence to proclaim administrative superiority | | | Abodh Sharma
JAMMU, Aug 1: Police bosses are sulking over their diminishing protocol in the administrative set up that has changed quite a bit during the last decade, inadvertently bringing the men in khaki much below their civilian counter parts.
Sources divulge that while the professional compulsions restrain them from ventilating their feelings, anguish is brewing amongst the police officers over complete violation of warrant of precedence, relegating them to a position much below they deserve in hierarchy of administrative protocol.
While in district administration, District Superintendents of Police were considered at par with the Deputy Commissioners, the civilian officers were placed higher as they were also designated as the District Magistrates. Similarly, till about two decades back, when DIGs of Police headed zones, they were considered at par with the Divisional Commissioners in the civil administration; but eventually, IGPs were designated as Zonal heads and four to five DIGs were deputed as Range heads under them while Divisional Commissioner remained only one, agai...

JAMMU, Aug 1: Definitely not for his exclusive political ideology and his passion for the 'jihad' that is surfacing with its most savage manifestations in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani deserves to be respected for his age. He is an impressive, eloquent speaker and also a prolific author of books and daily statements for Press without break since 1990.
But Geelani Sahab needs to be quizzed for some clarifications to the statements he has issued in the past few days with regard to "occupation" of the Kashmir's land and the proposed Kousar Naag yatra. According to him, Narendra Modi's BJP-led Government at th...

| | | | NC seeks to win Assembly elections on AFSPA plank | | Farooq jumps on to Omar's bandwagon | | | Neha
JAMMU, Aug 1: The defeated and desperate NC, which has lost its sheen and appeal over the period, has, it seems, resolved to contest the coming Assembly elections on the planks of autonomy and AFSPA revocation. It has perhaps come to believe that if it is to meet the challenge being posed by the victorious PDP and win a few seats in the Valley, it has to rake up divisive and controversial issues. It is not fighting for the retention of the Chief Minister's chair; it is fighting for its very survival. It knows that it will be extremely difficult to restore the entire political space it lost to the PDP in 2002, 2008 and 2014 and, hence, its desperate attempt to take up controversial and...
