PM, Mush may meet at NAM summit

New Delhi | August 27 Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met the Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan and Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran on Saturday for a discussion on the upcoming NAM summit. Singh will attend the NAM Summit to be held in Havana on September 15-16. Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf will also be attending the Summit and it is possible that the two leaders could hold a meeting to be on sidelines of the summit. They said meeting would take place in the backdrop of war of words and freeze on the two-year-old dialogue process in the aftermath of July 11 Mumbai serial blasts. The meeting would provide an opportunity for airing of India's concerns at the highest level with regard to continued cross-border terrorism. New Delhi has expressed disappointment over the fact that Islamabad has not dismantled the terror infrastructure existing on territories under its control despite giving assurances two years back. EARLY TIMES REPORTER Jammu | August 27 The state coalition Government has expressed sympathies with the kins of the today's road accident victims who were crushed to death by a minibus near Digiana. In the accident seven people were killed and five others were wounded. Raman Bhalla, MLA immediately rushed to the spot to assess the gravity of the incident. People of the area gathered and start protesting against the accident. They also blocked the ever-busy Digiana road and didn't allow the vehicular movement for some time. New Delhi | AugUST 27 A week after the Supreme Court put brakes on indiscriminate arrests in the Srinagar sex scandal, thirteen out of the 14 accused, arrested by the CBI, have moved a petition before it seeking shifting of the case to a place outside Jammu and Kashmir. Islamabad | Aug 27 Prominent tribal leader Nawab Akbar Bugti was killed in a major Army operation in Pakistan's restive Balochistan province which also left 38 other armed rebels and 21 security personnel dead, triggering massive violence which prompted authorities to impose curfew in Quetta and arrest hundreds of rioters. New Delhi | AugUST 27 With a view to revamp the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and meet its depleting cadre strength, the government has given a green signal to IPS officers to work in the external intelligence agency on the basis of permanent secondment, under which they can return to their parent cadre in case of better promotional avenues. The proposal was cleared at a recent high-level meeting attended by senior bureaucrats, including RAW chief P K Hormese Tharakan, informed sources said.
