When Mr Azad took over as Chief Minister he had toyed with the idea of bringing some senior IPS officer to head the police in Jammu and Kashmir. But he could not succeed in his mission because suitable people were not interested in shouldering the responsibility of heading the police in a state tormented by militancy related violence. Speaking to reporters here on the sidelines of the third round of talks to iron out a seven-billion-dollar gas pipeline deal with India and Pakistan, Hosseinian said, "The price of the seller is about twice the prices that the buyers are interested," On being asked how big the price difference was, Hosseinian refused to divulge the details saying, "It depends how you compare it". "We think that the price is fair and today we have a report that shows that's the good price for Indi...

Pak faces major political crisis
Musharraf uses 'Kashmir card' to save his regime
8/3/2006 6:29:10 PM
B L KAK NEW DELHI: Pakistan President, Gen. Parvez Musharraf, currently facing a set of serious challenges within his own country, has chosen to divert the Pakistanis' attention to the decades old bone of contention between his country and India. It is Kashmir, to be precise. Gen. Musharraf and his men within and outside the Pakistan ruling establishment seem to have found the 'Kashmir card' relevant and effective while dealing with their political adversaries. Since things on Pakistan's politcal scene are hotting up, the use of 'Kashmir card' may not eventually serve the political requirements of Gen. Musharraf and his men. Taking the situation, as it is, Pakistan is on the ...

Two crucial official wings aren't healthy
Home Ministry for effective surveillance on calls to Pak
8/3/2006 6:28:29 PM
B L KAK NEW DELHI, AUG. 3: The government of India admits that highly robust is the terrorists' world. Equally robust is the comunication network available to the terrorists, local and foreign. What seems to have perturbed the government is that in spite of the existence in India of a number of security and intelligence related agencies, the number of terrorist attacks has only increased. While the Intelligence Bureau (IB) is the apex ...
