AUTO-DRIVERS LEAD BY DOCTOR ATTACK THREE NEWSPAPER OFFICES, BURN COPES

EARLY TIMES REPORTER Jammu, Aug 7: In yet another attempt to silence and suppress the media, a band of some 65 known faces including some auto-drivers lead by a doctor today launched an attack on three prominent newspapers published from Jammu including this newspaper. The protestors working on behalf of Congress leader and Member Parliament Chowdhary Lal Singh set on fire the copies of EARLY TIMES and two Hindi newspapers in front of their offices in Gandhi Nagar and Bikram Chowk area. The Police have been informed about the incident. The protestors who were lead by one Dr Sandeep Singh, an orthopaedic specialist raised slogans against the newspapers and warned them of serious consequences if they carried any more stories against the Member of Parliament Chowdhary Lal Singh. They described the newspapers as blackmailers and asked them to publish apologies to the MP for face serious actions. EARLY TIMES REPORTER Jammu, Aug 7: With another day of inclement weather in the Kashmir Valley , the holy Amarnath yatra remained suspended for the second consecutive day today. Rains continued to lash the valley for the third day, rendering the 46 km traditional Pahalgam and 16-km shorter Baltal routes to the shrine slippery, a spokesman of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board said. Besides rains, mild snowfall was also witnessed at Mahagunus Pass near the holy cave yesterday, the spokesman said. ET REPORTER Jammu, Aug 7: As the war against corruption goes on and the details unfold, it come out that the Consumer Affairs and Public Disbursement department leads many departments in the cases of corruption detected so far. According to the Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Taj Mohiuddin, as many as 36 officers and officials of his department have either been booked, their properties attached or their services terminated for their established corrupt practices. Tax defaulters get relief, amnesty deadline extended

ET REPORTER Jammu, Aug 7: In a major relief to the tax defaulters and other bona-fide payers, the government today extended the amnesty scheme till September 6. The amnesty came into force with effect from May 7, 2007 for a period of six months with a condition that the traders and industrial units fulfil the requisite formalities within a month in case of traders and three months in case of industry respectively. There had been demands for extension of this period both in the industry and trade. Srinagar , Aug. 7: For the second consecutive day, the pilgrimage to Amarnath remained suspended due to continuous downpour in valley and mild snow fall on its upper reaches. For the last three days rains continue to lash the valley rendering both the routes leading to Amarnath cave, slippery.
