The presentation going to be made by Wajahat Habibullah, the Chief Information Officer, government of India and a former Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, in the meeting of the working group on Jammu and Kashmir, on September 2 in New Delhi, proposing five regional assemblies in the state, one each for plains of Jammu region and for hilly areas of the region, one for Leh and other for Kargil, while the fifth for the whole of Kashmir valley, is in fact the repeat of the old game plan of Kashmiri politicians to divide Jammu region and Ladakh on communal lines, while keeping Kashmir valley as a single entity. Veteran politician and former Union minister from Jammu and Kashmir Mohammad Shafi Qureshi has been appointed as the chairman of the National Minorities Commission, official sources said.
Qureshi, 77, who had served as a minister in the Indira Gandhi government, is likely to take over on September 3 to become the first person from Jammu and Kashmir to occupy the post which fell vacant after Mohammed Hamid Ansari's election as Vice-President.
On being approached by the Centre, Qureshi gave his consent for appointment to the post recently.
An official announcement of Qureshi's announcement is likely in a day or two.

Jammu and Kashmir government will consider to allot plots to legislators who do not have homes in Jammu or Srinagar.
This assurance was given by the state minister for health Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma in the Legislative Assembly (LA) after members, cutting across party lines, demanded that members from Jammu should be alloted plots in Srinagar and those from the valley be given plots in Jammu for construction of their houses.
The members, raising the issue during Zero-hour, said that single rooms allotted to the members in MLA hostel here or in Jammu were not enough for them.

On last day of summer session, the Legislative Assembly on Friday turned into a battle field with lawmakers assaulting marshals and threatening each other.
After the Zero Hour ended, Panthers Party (PP) MLAs, Balwant Singh Mankotia, Faqir Nath and Yashpal Kundal – who are on protest against suspension of their colleague Harshdev Singh – entered the House wearing red aprons. The Deputy Speaker Muhammad Akbar Lone, who was in the chair, asked the PP members to take off their aprons.
However, PP members resisted forcing Deputy Speaker to call the marshals, who tore apart the aprons worn by the PP members.
