Valley shuts completely in protest against blasphemous US film | | | Bashir Assad
Srinagar, Sept 18: Normal life across Kashmir Valley was crippled Tuesday due to a complete shutdown called by several trade bodies and separatist organization to protest against blasphemous US film. There were reports that clashes between protesting youth and the security forces broke out at many places in Srinagar and Anantnag in which several people including some policemen received injuries, however, no causality was reported from anywhere till this report was filed.
There was an unprecedented shutdown since 2010 and people observed complete shutdown to protest against the American anti-Islam video clip , shops, business establishments remained closed, public transport was completely off the roads, and attendance in government offices was very thin. Schools and educational institutions including the Kashmir University, its South and North Campuses, Islamic University of Science and technology and the NIT Srinagar. Work in the local courts was also adversely affected by the shutdown call.

Set up in violation of PCB norms, stone crushers pose grave threat to survival of trees in forests | | | Bharat Bhushan
JAMMU, Sept 18: Operational in, or close to the lush green forests of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts is the gross violation of pollution control board (PCB) norms, stone crushers are threatening the very existence of flora and fauna in their vicinity.
Locals alleged that there was no control by the government agencies on these stone crushers which had thrown all PCB norms to the wind. Curbs be imposed on their operation as the stone dust was also polluting the air, they demanded.
"The dust, that emanates from the stone crushers, settles on the dew-laden leaves of trees, blocking their pores and then choking their respiratory system," PCB sources said.
