Reservation to Pahari speaking people generates debate
Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 27: Decision of the Governor's administration to extend reservation benefits to the Pahari speaking people of the State has opened a new 'Pandora Box' because people from different parts of Jammu regions are also claiming themselves as real Paharis. Refugees from Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK)- 'temporarily settled' in Jammu city, have also claimed themselves as the 'genuine Paharis'. Similarly representatives of reserved categories have called this move as "unconstitutional", according to them, there is no provision to grant reservation on the basis on "language" and "ethnicity" "How can government debar us from availing this benefit because reservation has been extended on the Pahari speaking people because we too speak Pahari?', asked a Refugee leader and said that word 'Pahari speaking people' was clearly mentioned in the Bill passed in the state legislature and which is now approved by Governor.
