JK bags 2nd Sub Junior Cricket Championship | Vaid highlights importance of sports in physical, mental development | | early times report SRINAGAR, Sept 24: Highlighting the importance of sports in the mental and physical development of youth, the Additional Director General of Police Headquarters (ADGP) S.P. Vaid has said that sports also provide an opportunity to explore their talent in other fields of life. Vaid was speaking at the concluding function of 2nd Sub. Junior 15-15 Cricket Championship at Madr-e-Meherban Stadium Ganderbal this afternoon. The Championship was organised by Jammu and Kashmir 15-15 Cricket Association, which was inaugurated by R.S.Chib, Minister for Sports on 2oth of this month. 20 teams from different states of the country including J&K, Minipur, Punjab, Rajastan, Utrakhand, Delhi, Maharashtra, Madya Pradesh, Chatis Grah and Tamil Nadu participated in the tournament. Vaid, who was the chief guest at the function, said that sports play an important role in creating discipline and spirit to work together among the youth. He said that it also boosts the talent among the sports person to excel in other fields, besides creating passion, valour to face ups and downs of the life. Sports have now become a career option which provides entertainment to the people in the leisure movements of busiest life, the ADGP added. Appreciating the efforts of All India 15-15 Cricket Association and Jammu and Kashmir 15-15 Cricket Association for organising such event in the State, the ADGP said that the activities provide a plate form to the sports person of different regions of the country to assemble and excel. He said that such activities have also helped in utilising the energies of the youth in the right direction and hone their talent. He disclosed that Jammu and Kashmir Police Organisation has been organising various national and State level sports tournaments for promoting sports culture in the State. Various player of the organisation have brought laurels in the arena for the nation and the state, he added. In the final match of the championship, Jammu and Kashmir defeated Minipur and bagged the championship. On this occasion Vaid distributed mementoes, certificates and trophies among the players and the organisers. Among others the function was attended by Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Mir Showket, ADC Abid Maqbool, SP Shahid Mehraj, President All India 15-15 Cricket Association Dilip Joshi, Vice President Anil Kumar, Secretary V.P.Singh, President J&K 15-15 Cricket Association Sheikh Ghulam Ahmad Saloora and senior officers from Police and Civil administration, besides a large number of sports lovers and senior citizens. |
