Azad, Soz share Jammu ‘dateline’...but ‘camps’ remain drawn apart | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 24: Look at it as a mere coincidence or consciously prepared schedule of functions, the two tall leaders of Congress Ghulam Nabi Azad and Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz happened to be here in the winter capital of J&K almost on same dateline, both on the tour beginning Saturday. The 'factional lines' however, remained drawn in bolder contours with the two leaders and their loyalists confined to their respective engagements, not even one among the latter who attended functions with both stalwarts. The story of two Congress factions remaining drawn and distanced apart is nothing new. Nor was it expected of the duo Azad and Soz attending each other's functions or any that could have organized jointly, since it happens rarely the two tour any of the State capital with same timing and date. And if at that is seen, as it happened two days back, as a matter of coincidence or deliberate attempt to register presence, the functions and agenda of visit is ever and always different with venues, leaders and even the audience divided. This is atypical of the situation of two rival parties wherein the leaders remain withdrawn and distanced apart even on similar issues and political matters. What comes as disappointing, if not surprising aspect of the latest drama of deep divisions persisting within the State unit of Congress is that even the Ministers and senior leaders chose to attend the public functions led by Prof Soz and Azad separately, even though the main functions were held on different days - Saturday and Sunday, respectively. In other words those who were seen having attended Soz's function with refugees' agenda on Saturday were completely out of scene and scenario with Azad's engagements on Sunday. In fact none of them met Azad or Soz privately either. However, it was particular set of Ministers, senior leaders one MP, who called on Azad at Circuit House on Saturday and Sunday as well, and there were equal number, perhaps more in number from amongst the Ministers, legislators, MP by the side of Soz in both public functions as well as in private meetings. This all goes to prove that despite New Delhi's repeated directions and instructions, the talk of so called unity and united face in the two factions with leaders divided , is a rhetoric and seems a remote possibility, given the inflated egos of leaders in both the camps. |
