early times report Jammu, Sept 29: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President, Mehbooba Mufti today sought peoples' cooperation for justice, equity and good governance. She was addressing a public rally at Pouni in Reasi district. Mufti said the creation of PDP was a turning point in the political history of Jammu Kashmir. "It is emerging as a strong political force and an alternative to the National Conference which has given the state the worst ever government", she said. The PDP president said the NC could boast of only one achievement-holding panchayati elections. "but even this institution has been rendered useless by denying powers to them", she said. "Encouraging nepotism and corruption, mal-administration etc are the only achievements of the decades long mis-governance of the successive National Conference regimes in the State", she mentioned and added that National Conference leaders have build their own empires within and outside the State at the cost of the poor people of Jammu and Kashmir. She opined that Jammu people were slightly better off as they had certain alternatives available in the form of Congress, BJP, Panther Party etc, though all those parties could not help in providing an alternate system to the National Conference dispensation. "All the good things like State Accountability Commission popularly known as Lok Pal was first brought in Jammu and Kashmir by PDP-Congress collation, RTI too was first brought in 2004 by the same dispensation and later the rest of the country followed", she told the gathering but hastened to added that today all such institutions have been either made defunct or marginalized by the present government to cover their corrupt deeds. "While National Conference has been the first government to have implemented POTA even before it became a law but now it is saying that central law of Panchayat empowerment is against the State". Taking a dig the National Conference leader coalition for not taking any step to provide relief to the people due to imposition of cap on subsidized LPG cylinders, she said that even the recent cap on LPG subsidy has been resisted by majority of states including some Congress ruled where they have taken the burden upon themselves to compensate the people by enhancing the number of subsidized LPG cylinders per year.
