Early Times Report
vijaypur/srinagar, Sept 29: Two former Ministers and Congress leaders have urged the Chief Minister to disclose the names of the Congress Ministers who have supported National Conference on the issue of 73rd and 74th amendments. "If he is not lying, the Chief Minister should disclose the names of those two Congress Ministers who according to him (CM) have been opposing the demands of implementation of the Panchayat Raj Act amendments in the State Constitution," Manjit Singh demand in a statement.
The former Minister said that the Chief Minister was lying to create a wedge among the Congress leaders and Ministers. "We want to know the names of two Ministers since they are not above the Congress party. If any Congress Minister has opposed the demand of party he should be punished accordingly," he added, while saying that the Congress party immediately after the Panchayat elections raised the demand of implementation of 73rd and 74th amendments in Jammu and Kashmir.
He also contested the claim of NC additional general secretary, Mustafa Kamaal that Congress did not raise the issue earlier. "The Pradesh Congress Committee chief, Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz, other leaders and MP Madan Lal Sharma have continuously raised the demand of the implementation of the amendments in the border State", he said.
He also advised the National Conference leaders to desist from such statements in public since it could create problems in the coalition.
Meanwhile, Congress leader and Member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil made a similar demand in a statement issued today.
He said Omar Abdullah must disclose the names of the Ministers who tried to stall the democratic process or accept responsibility for being the biggest stumbling block in the process.
He condemned suppressive action of the Government to curb peaceful demonstration by Youth Congress for implementing 73rd and 74th amendments in the State and described the incident as unfortunate and bolt on democracy.
The NC led coalition, he said must come out clean with its policies and programmes to empower Panchayats so that common masses are not kept in dark.
Vakil reiterated his demand of empowering Panchayats and asked the Government not to confront with youth leaders who have every right to protest.
Vakil supported the resolve of Congress MP and AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi who had said that Panchayats in our country must be empowered to decentralize powers.
Expressing shock over the killing of elected representatives, he said such incidents were aimed at demoralizing the spirit of democracy which should be checked with firm hands.
