Jammu, Oct 20: On the written representation of volunteers and founder members of 'Save My Tawi' campaign regarding the contamination of water of River Tawi and illegal mining of minor minerals like sand, gravel on the bed of the river, Deputy Commissioner Jammu has issued an extensive order to Police, Jammu Municipality and PWD to enforce the directions in letter and Spirit. In his order, the Deputy Commissioner has directed Senior Superintendent of Police, the Superintendent Engineer, Public Works Department and Commissioner Jammu to enforce the order and revert back with the status report to the DC within a period of 7 days. SSP, Jammu has been asked to ensure strict compliance of the order no 144 CRPC issued vide no DMJ/Misc/2012/3226-34 dated 29/Aug/2012 where Sanjeev Verma in the capacity of District Magistrate Jammu imposed ban on excavation of minor mineral in the periphery of bridges on the river/nallah of district Jammu. Similarly, the Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation has been asked to install display boards, cautioning the use of polythene and other deleterious products polluting river, at locations along river Tawi, especially at those places, which attract huge gathering. On the request of 'Save My Tawi' volunteer-members, the Deputy Commissioner has also issued necessary directions to the Superintendent Engineer, Public Works Department (R & B), Jammu to ensure removal of debris and remnants lying in the center of the river, just beneath the river when the construction of bridge was taken by the UPSC some 7 years ago, where these left over construction material is causing smooth flow of the river. S.E has been asked to get these material removed at the cost of the executing agency. The members of the "Save My Tawi" campaign who had personally met the DC and handed over him the representation including, Advocate Dewaker Sharma, RTI Activist Raman Sharma, Vilakshan Singh, Harasis Singh and Munish Sharma have expressed gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner |
