| Govt response takes sting out of Geelani's propaganda | | | early times report Jammu, Oct 31: The media report about no construction activity of pucca road enroute to Amarnath yatra, has taken a sting out of the highly toxic and communal propaganda of separatists especially Sayed Ali Shah Geelani. Pushed to the corner in the political map of the state, and also at the fag end of his life, had been raking up this issue to communalise the situation. The reports had suggested that there is no such activity. However, the fact of the matter is that Supreme Court had asked the government to widen the road and also for setting up sewerage treatment plant. The state government in its response to the SC had agreed to it and it had also committed for early resumption of these works. The government response was made in the Special High Power Committee on this issue. The widening of the road can't be stopped and this fact must be brought in the public domain. However, strangely even though, the government has acted in principal about it, yet it's downplaying it. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, had though once rightly openly challenged Geelani, to take a chopper ride to see the work, is strangely downplaying the issue of widening of the track. There has been opposition to the road even from the civil society of the Kashmir. The reports may give some breather to the government in taking on Geelani but the propaganda machine of the Geelani will not stop firing salvo even then. The government must put its best foot forward and thump it down forcefully to let Geelani and his ilk know that law of the land and directions of the highest court of the country can't be bended to appease the separatists. The government and especially Omar Abdullah should publicly state the government is committed to widening of the track between Baltal and Shrine and will not stop work on this account. More than 100 people had died during yatra and Geelani can't issue diktat to stop work which can help in reducing this number.
