| High command, Sr leaders fail to bridge widening gap……….. | | NC cadres drifting apart from 'leadership' | | early times report Jammu, Oct 31: With Durbaar shifting to winter capital, the workers and cadres of ruling National Conference who were already a disillusioned lot , now feel pushed to wall , there being no leaders nor ministers , not to speak of the high command with whom they can interact or convey their issues. The gap of communication between the cadres, functionaries down the hierarchy has already widened , high command having failed to keep any rapport or contact with them. Sources within the party said that workers and cadres of the ruling party have for a long time been feeling distraught and disillusioned both with the senior leaders including high profile ministers as the latter have failed to build a constant rapport , ever since the party came to power. "The ministers are doing so only in their respective constituencies …..nourishing them in all respects and addressing their problems …but when it comes to addressing the workers and cadres of the party as a general lot and cumulatively they have failed to do so …. ", said a senior functionary of the party from Kashmir. Sources said while at the high command level father son duo( Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah) enjoy compatibility and have perfect understanding on some key issues confronting the party, General Secretary of NC , Farooq's uncle is no more a powerful person, though he continues to hold significant post at the high command level. However, both Omar and Farooq have allowed the things to drift to such an extent that party matters have almost been pushed aside and no care is being taken to take stock of long pending organizational issues nor any measure taken for a long time that could have boosted the morale of the workers and strengthened their trust towards the high command. It is pertinent to mention that no rally or convention has been organized by the party for over two years. Such meetings are the only forums on which Abdullahs get to interact or address the cadres and have proved beneficial in terms of resurrecting faith among them as and when the party faced crisis in the past, more so when it was in opposition. After coming to power, the high command has simply shun or distanced from such mandatory political functions, which has resulted in the widening gulf between them and the workers, particularly in Kashmir valley, which continued to be the main constituency of the party. Sources said that most of the ministers and other stalwarts in the second line of the party also do not take initiative to bridge the gap with the workers since they have their grievances and issues with the high command on separate issues. "There is in fact a gap between the high command and second line leaders who have busied themselves with their own ministries or own constituencies……..since high command doesn't bother to take care of organizational matters , the senior leaders have also kept deliberate distance…..", said the senior functionary while explaining pathetic state of affairs within NC in Kashmir valley. The situation has reached this stage mainly because of the fact that second line leaders and key functionaries of NC feel and have observed a number of times that organizational matters are being controlled by the 'coterie' of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah which include two to three persons, who keep advising the high command on all such matters , sources said . The high command continued to remain blissfully unaware of the realities within the party, mainly on this account.
