JAMMU, Nov 16: Sainik Colony Football Club and Young Tiger Football Club emerged champions winning junior and sub-junior football league ties played at GGM Science College ground, here this afternoon. In the junior league tie, Sainik Colony trounced fighting Param Football Club (Param FC) by a solitary goal. The only goal of the match came through Niteshwar Singh, who pushed the ball right into the net taking advantage of goalkeeper's failure to take hold of the ball after making a brilliant save in the 65th minute of the match. Already on a safer side because of a two points lead in their favour on the basis of performance in the league round, Sainik Colony confidently defended the opponent Param FC moves most of the time in this 80-minute game. Meanwhile, the sub-junior league trophy went to Young Tigers, who defeated Christian Star-B by two goals tone. Nitin Heer brought in the first blood from Young Tiger netting the ball in the very fourth minute of the match. However, the lead was equalized by Christian Star in the 10th minute through Flavious Gill. The winning goal from Young Tigers was scored by Ishan Gupta in the 45th minute of the match. Today's league matches were officiated by Koushal Sharma, Vijay Kumar (center referee), Vinay Mooman, Harneel Singh and Harmanjeet Singh (assistant referees). In the prize distribution function, Member Legislative Assembly (MLA), Bimla Luthra was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other medals. Speaking to the gathering, the chief guest extended a financial help of Rs one lakh to the Jammu wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) for promotion of the game at grass root level. Earlier, the MLA was welcomed by treasurer of JKFA, R K Kohli, former MLC, S M Gill, Fiestus Sotra, Ramesh Chander, Iliaza Sotra and Rajesh Kumar (all executive members of JKFA Jammu wing). Later, organizing secretary, Surinder Singh Bunty, who is also resident secretary of JKFA Jammu wing, thanked the chief guest and the participating clubs for making the event a success. |
