| MLC election pushes NC in political soup | | | early times report Jammu, Nov 16: National Conference is in soup over the MLC elections by having making last minute changes in the names and also for a public perception about it being responsible for playing negative role in dissolution of powers to the Panchayats. NC by denying ticket to Ratan Lal Gupta at the last minute has left many heart burns in the Jammu division of the cadre. Ratan Lal the public face of the party in this region and had worked for it. Initially, he was projected as the party candidate but last minute denial of the ticket at the behest of senior party leaders could have affect on the political fortunes of the party. Dr Shahnaz Ganie, though coming from a strong political party, doesn't have political standing as of now and her nomination has send the impression that party still runs on the whims and fancies of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Dr Farooq Abdullah. This will not go well with the panchs and sarpanchs who had entered into political fray for the first time and some of whom have further political aspiration. They will see this action of the NC as against inner party democracy and would hesitate to align with such a party. In Kashmir the party is likely to face tough competition from PDP, which will infuse all its energy in this election. Party has already prepared itself in the election mode with Mufti Mohammad Sayeed himself touring every corner of the State. Even though the parties, especially NC and Cong, are believing of sure victory but reality is far away from that. Though only panchs and sarpanchs will vote but they are not technically aligned with any party and elections were not held on party basis, though some of them have political affiliations. The election would like a general election and result would send the signal which way the political air is blowing. The NC may find itself in tumultuous and disturbing weather as there is strong perception among panchs and sarpanchs that was against on giving them security and also is reluctant in empowering panchayats.
