Two women nominees among 40 nominations filed for 4 LC seats

Jammu/Srinagar, Nov 16: On the last day of filing of nomination papers for filling four MLC seats as many as forty (40) candidates belonging to different parties and groups today filed nominations under panchayat quota.
Among the nominations, 16 were filed in Kashmir division whileas 24 nominations were filed by candidates in Jammu division before different Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers.
Ruling National Conference (NC), Opposition Parties BJP and Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) fielded two women among 8 candidates for polls to 4 seats of Legislative Council under Panchayat quota.
15 candidates filed their nomination papers before Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, who is the Returning Officer for conducting the elections for two seats of J&K Legislative Council from Kashmir Constituency of Panchayat quota, while as one candidate filed his nomination papers before Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla.
Prominent among the candidates who filed their nomination forms include Ghulam Nabi Monga of Congress, Ali Mohammad Dar of National Conference, Peer Mohammad Hussain and Yasir Reshi of PDP.
Eight Independent candidates, two candidates of National Panthers Party and one candidate from BJP also filed their nominations.
The Panthers Party candidates Dr Mohammad Iqbal and Mohammad Maqbool while Ashraf Ali of Leh filed nominations as a BJP candidate. Meanwhile Col (Retd) Uttam Singh and Rashpal Verma submitted their separate nomination papers to Gupta in presence of state president Shamsher Singh Manhas and other prominent party leaders.
Pertinently, the People's Conference backed the candidate Mohammad Kamaal Malik from Budgam also filed his nomination for the Legislative Council Elections besides Mohd Kamaal, Peoples' Conference has also decided to support Khursheed Ahmed Malik from Anantnag with equal vigour, said the party spokesperson in a statement here.
Independent MLA from Langate Constitutency of Kupwara, Engineer Rasheed too has also fielded two Sarpanches as candidates backed by him.
Among prominent members who filed their nominations from Jammu included Sarpanch of Assar Doda Sham Lal Bhagat of Congress, who submitted his paper to the Divisional Commisioner Doda on Friday in presence of MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori. The National Conference candidate Shahnaz Ganai also filed her nominations today in the office of Divisional commissioner Jammu.
Ved Mahajan and Gurmeet Singh of PDP have also filed nominations for election to the two seats in Jammu Division.
Pertinently today was the last date for submission of nomination forms. These forms will be scrutinized on November 17 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is November 19, upto 1500 hours. The poll is scheduled to be held on December 03.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India had earlier enforced Model Code of Conduct across the Jammu and Kashmir state.
