| KU official facing breach of privilege | | | early times report Srinagar, Nov 16: A senior Kashmir University official is facing breach of privilege by Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. The Assembly Secretariat vide letter NO: LA-9008/Legn/2012 dated 25-09-2012 has asked the Vice Chancellor Kashmir University not to assign any administrative responsibilities to Prof Mushtaq Ahmad Kaw, Dean Colleges, Development Council, KU till the disposal of the case. "You are well aware of the fact that Prof Kaw, facing breach of privilege had come up with a written explanation in response to this office letter No LA-7738/LEGn/2012 dated 22-06-2012 which was accordingly placed before the Speaker for his kind perusal. But he was not convinced with the words mentioned therein," the Assembly letter, a copy of which lies with Early Times, reads. "Before the matter is referred to the Committee of Privileges for further action against Prof Kaw, the KU Vice Chancellor be advised not to assign any administrative responsibility to him (Prof Kaw) till the disposal of complaint against the said functionary," it added. Kashmir University has achieved distinction in corruption, favouritism and nepotism in the last few years and according to students the higher ups of the Varsity have become so arrogant that they never give heed to their problems. Sources said Assembly Speaker, Mohammad Akbar Lone had asked Prof Kaw to solve some urgent issue pertaining to the students which the said officials failed to do. "The Speaker using his powers has referred the case to the privilege committee of the Assembly," they added. A senior employee of KU demanded that the Speaker should intervene in the said affairs of the Varsity and order probe in the bungling done by the higher officials during the last few years. "Corruption is rampant in the KU and some of the officials haven't been transferred from their posts for the last more than five years. Due to their close proximity with the KU higher ups nobody dares to touch them. It is high time that Speaker should form a committee and order probe in the bunglings done by the KU authorities," he demanded. Sources said holding of frequent seminars and conferences has become another source of corruption in the KU. "In the name of holding seminars and conferences lakhs of rupees have been swindled by several Heads of Departments of the KU in the last three years. There is no accountability to the money spent on these conferences and seminars," they added. |
