Relief Organization becomes den of corruption, nepotism
Commissioner accused of shielding guilty

early times report
Jammu, Nov 16: The Relief Organisation has allegedly become an epicentre of corrupt practices and nepotism as the relief holders have accused the staff of indulging in corrupt practices and the Commissioners of shielding them.
Following a recent complaint filed by a lady with the Relief Commissioner against officials of Relief Organization who had reportedly taken a bribe of ten thousand rupees from the complainant for clearing her file to get relief admissible to the migrants, the Commissioner Organized an identification parade in his office. "When the complainant identified the four accused, the Commissioner rather than reporting the matter to the police or the SVO, transferred two identified as Shiban Krishan Raina and Poshkar Nath while let the other two scot free", said a relief holder.
This is, however, not an isolated incident of corruption in the Relief Organisation and higher officers shielding the wrong doers. An officer identified as Shahid Iqbal is working in Relief Organization for the last seven years without a genuine order and has not drawn salary for the last seven years. "This is such a lucrative posting that he has been working without salary for seven long years", said a relief holder.
The official was transferred from PHE Deptt to Relief Org. In 2005 while his LPC and Service book were not received till June 2012.
Sources in the department disclose that though the official was transferred through a clandestine order, any attempt to repatriate him to his parent department is opposed by senior bureaucrats and even ministers.
Pointing out at the rising corruption in the Relief Organisation, Migrant leader Shadi Lal of Jagti said that if fraudulent ration cards of migrants are ceased and corrupt practices in Relief Organization are checked, no additional amount shall be required from Government for enhancing the monthly relief from Rs 5000/- to Rs. 10000/- in favour of genuine migrants.
