| Big 131 runs win for JU, enters QFs of VC T20 Cup | | | early times report JAMMU, Nov 24: Host University of Jammu among all the three state universities today won their respective matches to strengthen their positions in respective groups of the ongoing All India Vice Chancellor's Twenty20 Cup Cricket Tournament here today. Besides JU, Kashmir University and SKAUST Kashmir won their league matches making it big victories against their respective opponents. However, JU has become first team from group-A to confirm their berth in the knock-out stages of quarterfinals, winning all the three games played so far. In today's league tie, JU inflicted a humiliating 131 runs defeat on GB Pant University Jharkhand. Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, JU set a challenging target of 184 runs for the loss of six wickets, courtesy splendid 79 (off 59 balls, 9x4) runs from vice-captain, Ameet Targotra. Prakshit Manhas and Dawood Iqbal contributed 29 and 15 runs to the total respectively. From GB Pant University, Bhagat Singh and Amit Joshi took two wickets each. In reply, G B Pant University made a meek surrender after the whole side bowled out for a small total of 52 runs in 13.1 overs. Rajesh Verma was most successful bowler from JU with four wickets, followed by Pawan Singh, Raj Kumar and Niranjan, who shared two wickets each. For his brilliant batting Ameet Targotra was declared man of the match. He was presented trophy by Vice-Chancellor, Prof MPS Ishar, who, earlier, along with other higher officials, witnessed today's match. Meanwhile, Kashmir University registered an impressive nine-wicket win over GNDU Amritsar. Batting first, GNDU bowled out for a small total of 99 runs in 19.2 overs. Amandeep (31), Ashwani (27) and Harmeet Singh (12) were main contributors to the score. From KU, Ghulam Mohiuddin took three wickets while Parveez and Samiullah shared two each. In reply, KU overhauled the opponent total in mere 12.4 overs that too losing just one wicket. Suhail (49 off 39 balls, 8x4) and Samiullah (45 off 30 balls, 7x4) played unbeaten innings. Samiullah was declared man of the match for his all-round performance. The SKAUST Kashmir won their league tie played against MDS Ajmer beating latter by six wickets. Batting first, MDS Ajmer bowled out for 92 runs. In reply, SKAUST Kashmir chased in 12.3 overs for four wickets. Gowhar was top scorer with 31-ball 60 runs including six fours and five sixes while Sohail added 25 runs. For his brilliant innings, Gowhar was named man of the match. In another scheduled match, MANNU Hyderabad defeated Education Board Ajmer by 31 runs. Earlier, MANNU set a target of 157 runs for eight, which, in reply, Education Board could not chase and bowled out for 125 runs in 19.5 overs.
