Together forever, Omar’s application reaches New Delhi
'A poll promise for 2014'

JAMMU, Nov 24: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has officially pleaded with All India Congress Committee (AICC) for jointly contesting the 2014 Assembly elections.
Omar has written a letter to Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi impressing upon her to continue with alliance even after 2014 Assembly elections. Sources said that Omar has asked the Congress high command to discipline Congress brigade in Jammu, which is often heard making statements against the working of the coalition government in the state. He has written that Congress and NC have to stick together for contesting the 2014 Assembly elections in alliance.
Sources said that the letter was written by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the aftermath of hue and cry which state congress leadership had raised over the issue of 73rd amendment during the last few months. Assuring that he would everything possible to strengthen Panchayati Raj Act in the state, sources said that Omar has sought continuation of the alliance even after 2014, when the assembly elections would become due in the state.
Omar's latest statement during a rally which has irked both NC and Congress top brass has in the background this letter which Omar had sent to Sonia Gandhi, a copy of which had been forwarded to political secretary to Congress President Ahmed Patel and General Secretary Rahul Gandhi. Though no one from New Delhi has assured Omar of continuing with the coalition but basis of his resounding 2014 elections statements is a hint that has been dropped that PDP would be chosen as an alliance partner only if they perform extremely well, said the sources.
Sources said that Omar's statement also has in its background his personal relationship with Congress General Secretary and Prime Minister in waiting Rahul Gandhi. They added that Rahul has repeatedly come to the rescue of Omar and it is this relationship which has allowed Omar to take liberties with state congress and make statements of continuing with grand alliance even after 2014.
However, what is likely to act as spoiler is the tardy progress of various centrally sponsored schemes, reports of which Rahul has been reviewing regularly, a source said. He added that Rahul is not happy with the pace at which developmental works are going on across the state. "Rahul gee does see Omar as his close buddy but that does not mean, he is not bothered about the developmental issues which the state has been facing," added the source.
He said "We do not want to jeopardize the existing combination. We realize, Omar is a clean man and it is because of this reason, we have not demanded much accountability from him. But we cannot remain silent for long. We keep reading about rampant corruption in the public life. Omar would have to correct the things as early as possible." The source, who is close to AICC maintained that PDP is not alien to Congress and all, would depend on who goes where in these last two years.
