| Shaken, stirred NC cozying up with Cong | | | early times report Jammu, Nov 24: Chief minister Omar Abdullah's statement of possible NC-Cong alliance for the next Assembly elections is seen as nervous signs in the party. Political observers feel it's a sign of weakening of NC in the state especially in the valley. "It's first acknowledgment from the NC of the ground reality. The party is slipping politically in the valley and it's for this reason Chief minister is trying to cozying up with the Congress," said a senior Congress leader. NC and Cong had not contested Assembly elections in coalition in the past. It had only contested Parliamentary elections. The NC had always anti-Centre stand which is primarily seen as anti-Congress I the political circles. Omar got into chair after Congress decided to enter into post-poll alliance primarily after Entering into disagreement with the PDP, because of its political utterances when Azad was the Chief minister. The PDP had secured the highest poll percentage in the elections, about 10 percent more than NC. "We had admitted our folly, about resistance to Cong during Azad's time, to the Cong high command and had assured them of full and harmonious cooperation the future. The high command was also positive and had assured of cooperation in the future," said a senior PDP leader. There is strong thinking in the PDP that it will emerge as the largest single party in the next general elections if there is any need for political support than Congress can chip in. According to sources, the intelligence reports, given to the CM regularly, PDP is ascending politically in all three regions of the State and this is worrying Omar. "We will form government on our own and if there is any need, Cong had assured us. This is giving sleepless nights to Omar. It' for this reason he has wished for pre-poll alliance," said PDP leader. The Congress, which is also hoping to increase it tally after it received set back due to Amarnath land agitation, has also expressed reservation about possible pre-poll alliance. "The statement by Sham Lal Sharma that any decision would be taken by party high command reflects the positive and upbeat mood of the party and also the frustration and fear in NC camp," said a senior Cong leader.
