| Flesh trade racket thriving in posh locality, Burmese minors on sale | | Kingpin identified, likely to be arrested | | SUMIT SHARMA JAMMU, Nov 24: Right under the nose of serving and retired DIGs and IGs, fate stricken Burmese have allegedly become part of the flesh trade business in the city of temples. Police sources said that they are receiving complaints of the involvement of Burmese nationals in the flesh trade. The 782 families from Burma are living on a piece of Land in Kiryani Talab area of Bhathindi near Narwal in the outskirts of Jammu city. Local populace has been kind enough to have come to the rescue of these families who have come from Burma. However, with few of them turning to alleged flesh trade, police has been receiving complaints against them. Sources said that thriving of flesh trade under the very eyes of serving and retired DIGs and IGs is both surprising and shocking. They maintained that few of them do know about this menace and have been talking about it in private also but no action has so far been taken. Sources said that those associated with flesh trade have made posh localities of Jammu which include Channi Himmat, Bathindi, Narwal, Trikuta Nagar, Sainik Colony, Bahu Plaza and its adjoining areas as their safe heavens. Sources said that minor girls of Burma are being supplied for huge prices to customers from across Jammu and Kashmir. This alarming trend is common to most parts of the state but areas adjoining Bhathindi and Narwal are the worst hit. If the police sources are to be believed, unlike other cities where prostitution usually limits itself to one particular locality, in the city of temple, it's everywhere. Even the so-called plush apartments and posh localities aren't spared of playing host to flesh trade, said the sources. Sources said that Channi's alleged sex racket surfaced, when police caught hold of a Romeo with a Burmese girl. They added that a preliminary probe brought to light the murky flesh trade racket which has begun spreading its tentacles across Jammu city. Following this, sources said that police has identified the kingpin who has been allegedly supplying Burmese girls to the customers. Sources disclosed that girls of the age group of 12 to 16 are being allegedly supplied to hotels, guest houses, private apartments and other residential areas. They said that the kingpin is on the radar of the police radar despite the fact that he has shifted his residence from Kiryani Talab area of Bathindi to Channi Himmat. Police sources further revealed that they are waiting for an opportune time to lay hand on the accused and bust the racket. It has been repeatedly reported in the media and has been verified by International Labour Organization (ILO) that Burmese children are sold by their parents into prostitution and spirited away to brothels in various parents of India including Jammu and Kashmir. Burmese immigrants who have crossed the border illegally to escape persecution and poverty at the hands of the ruling military junta are living in Jammu and Kashmir without any legal status. Many work in menial jobs, like picking tobacco and rice, or construction work. Sources said that depths of poverty make the area easy pickings for brothel agents, or Aunties, as the procurers of young girls are known locally.
