| Alleged medical negligence at Kulgam hospital | | Pregnant lady dies, 2 doctors arrested | | Saahil Suhail
Kulgam, Nov 27: In an alleged case of medical negligence, 27 years old pregnant woman died at Kulgam hospital reportedly for denial of timely medical help. Police have arrested two doctors.
Irate locals took to streets and held strong protest against the negligence of doctors and demanded stern against them for not providing medical help to the pregnant lady and alleged that the deployed doctors in district hospital Kulgam are pursuing private practice at the cost of their duties, in the hospital.
Family members of the deceased lady alleged that the pregnant lady identified as Sheraza wife of Mohd Taseen Mir resident of Khi Jogi Pora Kulgam was brought in the hospital Monday morning when she was in Labour Pain.
"We reached the hospital at 11 in the morning and approached doctors and requested them to admit the patient but the doctor on duty, Dr Yousf Ali refused to examine the patient arguing that she had not completed her pregnancy period." Family member of the deceased said adding,
"again after 1 pm we approached doctors and they did same thing but this time doctor on duty identified as Shugufta prescribed an USG from any private centre. After 3pm when patient complained of high labour pain we forcefully entered into the ward were we got direction to make a file which took half an hour and the patient continued to be in pain without any help from the doctors".
Family members said that the doctors referred the patient to Maternity and Child Care hospital Anantnag at 5 pm and on way to Anantnag, the patient died.
When the news reached to the nativeplace of the deceased lady, people in numbers came out and protested against the hospital authorities and negligence of doctors that continued till today afternoon.
Sources inside the hospital confirmed negligence on part of the doctors who had allegedly misplaced the admit file of the deceased lady sensing trouble.
Kulgam police while acting on the written complaint submitted by the family members of deceased lady, arrested two doctors of district hospital Kulgam identified as Dr Yousf Ali and Dr Shufgta after registering an FIR under section 304 A.
"We have taken the cognizance of the act and have arrested both the doctors allegedly involved." DySP Head quarters Kulgam, Shabir Ahmad Mir confirmed.
Meanwhile MLA Kulgam, Mohd Yousf Tarigami, DC Kulgam along with Chief Medical officer visited the house of deceased lady and assured a fair probe in the case and appealed to the people to maintain calm.
